List of PEO companies
A list of PEO companies is easy to produce and almost useless to a buyer, which is why this site does not publish one as a ranking. Names are not scarce in this market. What is scarce is any verifiable fact about the companies behind them, and a list without facts simply moves the problem along.

What to do instead of collecting names
- Start from the public register. The IRS listing of certified organisations is a list somebody maintains and stands behind, which no marketing list is. Use it as your starting universe rather than a search result.
- Filter on your own facts, not theirs. Your state count, your headcount, your workers' compensation classifications and whether benefits are the reason you are shopping. Those four cut a long list faster than any review score.
- Ask three, not thirty. Beyond about three quotes the marginal information falls away sharply, because the variables that move the price are yours rather than theirs.
- Compare on documents. Benefit schedule, classification codes, service agreement and the fee in a comparable shape. A provider that supplies all four quickly is demonstrating something a list cannot.
Why published lists are the way they are
Most lists of providers in this market are monetised by the providers on them, through placement fees, lead sales or affiliate arrangements. That is not usually disclosed, and it is why the same handful of names appears at the top of lists that share no methodology.
This site takes the opposite approach and it costs it something: the record here contains only providers whose own pages were read and quoted, which makes it shorter than any marketing list and every entry checkable. Where a provider publishes nothing, that is recorded too.
What a useful shortlist looks like
Three to five providers, at least one of which publishes a price so you have a floor, chosen because they serve employers of your size and trade rather than because they appeared first. Each asked the same question in the same week so their answers are comparable.
That is a shortlist you can act on. A list of thirty names is a research project you will abandon.
Common questions
- Where can I find a list of PEO companies?
- The IRS publishes a listing of certified organisations, which is the only list in this market that somebody maintains and stands behind. Marketing lists are frequently monetised by the providers on them.
- Why does this site not rank providers?
- Because nothing verifiable separates most of them. This site records what each provider publishes about itself, checked against its own pages and dated, and leaves the ranking to the buyer who knows their own constraints.
- How many providers should I approach?
- Three to five, including at least one that publishes a price so you have a floor. Beyond that the extra quotes tell you very little, because the variables that move the price are yours.
